Hello there, so pleased to meet you! My name is Donnie. My foster mom has many nicknames for me – Don Juan, Donnie Brasco, Donald (when I’m up to no good). I came to MN from TX and just love it! It’s a whole new adventure for me here. I came into rescue in mid-October and am doing so amazing!
My foster mom says how smart I am and is always saying “you just want to be a good boy, don’t you?” I try to tell her “yes!” all the time but she keeps asking and giving me treats so I’m going to let that one go and enjoy the treats. I’m a young guy but not so young that you have to chase after me and clean up after me like a pup. I’m potty trained and really good about letting my foster mom know when I need to go out. She has bells hanging on the door so if she doesn’t see me, I just nudge them with my nose and she comes to open the door. It makes me feel so fancy – I just ring a bell and she comes running! I wonder if it would work for treats?
I turned a year old in August so I have a lot of life ahead of me. I’m still figuring out my clunky body and wouldn’t be surprised if I grew a bit more. I just went to the doctor and weighed in at 68 lbs and they said I’m a healthy young boy!
I’ve made a lot of progress since coming into rescue. When I first got here I was nervous about eating around others and I would feel like I had to guard my food, but I don’t feel the need to do that these days. I still get a little nervous but my foster mom makes sure to reassure me that no one is going to take my food and she gives me yummy treats, so I’m learning to really enjoy eating with someone around because that means TREATS! My foster mom plays games with me before eating and has taught me to sit patiently for my food, to wait until she says it's ok for me to start eating. She’s even taught me “shake”, “down”, “leave it” and “look” (at her). I really enjoy the games and learning new things. My foster mom always laughs at me because she can see me shaking in the background while she tries to teach my foster sister to shake. My foster sister hasn’t figured it out yet so I’m trying to give her the answer but she just won’t listen. Oh well, more treats for me!
My foster sister is another pittie and she loves to run, play and snuggle with me but sometimes I think I’m too big for her and she gets tired of me jumping on top of her so she gives me a warning – I’m pretty good about listening to that and respecting it.
One of my favorite things to do is play fetch with tennis balls! I could do that all day, everyday. It’s so fun and gets all my young boy energy out. My foster mom says she’s gonna have an arm like a pro-baseball player! I’m a really big snuggle bug – I just love being next to someone all the time, so if you like to snuggle I might be the guy for you.
For me, the perfect home would be a home with room for me to stretch out, a big yard or land for me to run and play. I’m not really sure about cats as my foster mom doesn’t have any but I don’t show much interest in them when we do see them on walks. I love other dogs and if there was another dog my size to play with I would love that so much but I would do really well as an only dog too. I would also really enjoy a home without young children. I really like kids but I’m a bit of a bull in a China shop and they can make me nervous around my food, so I think it would be best for me to live with older kids or no kids. I think that’s all about me for now – I would love to meet you and get to know more about you!
