Hi, I’m Schmiddy! I came to Save-A-Bull in July 2024 as an older gentleman, I was found at Minneapolis Animal Control. I was used for backyard breeding and the people using me decided they were done with me. The folks at Save-A-Bull knew I had some medical considerations, however it took time for them to understand the full extent of my medical needs. Within a couple months of being in rescue, I was diagnosed with Stage 3 kidney disease and was deemed to be a hospice dog – I am now a Forever Foster. Given some of the physical markings on me, it is clear I didn’t receive the love I deserved. I likely lived a life tied up outside, sleeping on concrete, and only being used to breed.
Despite my diagnosis, you would have no idea I am a hospice dog! I have a zest for life and am truly living an incredible second act. I love hanging around with my two resident dog friends (Goldy and Peregrine) where I love to run around the yard. When I get really excited, I shower the nearest one with kisses! I have never met a person I have not loved. I'll immediately try to jump on a human and instantly roll on my back for belly rubs – I can never get enough love and attention. Since I don’t care to be in my kennel, I get to co-pilot many drives with my foster dad and stick my head out the window to enjoy the fresh air.
While we know I will cross the rainbow bridge at some point – I will never go a day without getting the love I deserve. Everyone in and around the rescue has stepped up to show me love at events, fostering me when my foster dad goes out of town, or swinging over to give the old man (me!) some love. I’m a one of a kind dog, with the biggest noggin to match the biggest heart!
