Hi! I’m Ginger, and I have recently discovered that humans have been keeping something called cushioned furniture from me, and frankly, I have some catching up to do. First, you should know that I’m a ghost brindle. At first glance, you might think I’m one color, but look a little closer and you’ll see beautiful, subtle brindle striping hiding throughout my coat. My foster family says it makes me pretty unique. I agree!
Life before rescue wasn’t always easy, and I spent a lot of my time outdoors. Those days are officially behind me. The second I discovered couches, beds, car seats, pillows – and, most importantly, humans who can also function as beds – I knew exactly what kind of life I was meant for. I’m also a firm believer that a basket of freshly washed laundry is just a luxury dog bed humans haven’t finished assembling yet. Leave one unattended at your own risk!
I’m making up for lost love, too. I have a couple of secret scritch spots that get my back leg going at approximately 400 mph. Find one and congratulations: you’ve found Ginger’s happy place. I take my scritches very seriously.
I live with two resident dogs and do really well with both. One loves to wrestle with me and the other says, “Absolutely not, young lady.” I respect both answers! I enjoy playing, but I’m also happy to settle down for most of the day. I have some puppy energy without needing to be entertained every second.
I also haven’t met a human I don’t like. Not a soul! I’m warm and friendly with everyone I meet. I’m a bit of a Velcro girl – I’ll probably follow you from room to room – but I don’t need to be physically attached to you 24/7. I’m perfectly content snoozing at the foot of the bed or claiming my own spot on the couch.
I’m fully potty trained and do great in my kennel. I sleep in either my kennel or a human bed and handle both like a champ. After a full night’s sleep, I may quietly remind you from my kennel that morning has arrived and I am now available for activities.
I’m also a smart, food-motivated girl who loves to learn. I know “sit”, “down”, I’m working on “shake”, and my recall is already really good. We haven’t worked much on leash walking yet, so that’s something my forever family and I can learn together. I also do well riding in the car.
Now, in the interest of full disclosure: I am still a puppy, and occasionally I remember that I’m tall enough to investigate what humans leave on their counters. My foster family kennels me when they leave, which works great. I’m only mildly mouthy, and I sometimes jump up when I’m excited because I haven’t completely figured out how much space I take up yet.
And then there’s the cat. I LOVE THE CAT! Possibly more than the cat requested. I’m not trying to hurt my feline foster sibling – I’m just a big puppy who doesn’t always understand that smaller friends require smaller amounts of Ginger. I’ve also been known to liberate a cat toy or two. Because of my size and enthusiasm, my foster family thinks I’d do best without small cats, small dogs, or little kids who could accidentally get bowled over by my love.
Outside, I do wonderfully in my foster family’s fenced yard. I don’t dig and I’m not particularly interested in chasing critters – although if my resident dog friends take off to investigate something, I might tag along to see what all the fuss is about.
Mostly, though? I want what I didn’t have before: a soft place to land, people to follow around the house, dogs to play with, scritches that make my leg dance, a couch with my name on it, maybe an unattended pile of clean laundry. I’ve done the outdoor life , now I’m ready for the comfy one. Hopefully it’s with you!
