I'm ready for my new family!

Court

I'm Available

My name is Court, and I came all the way from Texas with my three brothers after we were rescued from a tough situation. The first thing Save-A-Bull did was give me a special name, “Court” which is after the Lynx’s Courtney Williams – a great hooper! I've been working hard to live up to the name and I'm happy to report that I've started to grow into my big paws and gangly legs! I'm now much more muscular and coordinated. My ears are a black with a bit of dappling, and my eyes are a light, expressive brown. Everyone says I'm a real athlete and I believe it! My stamina has improved since I arrived in late August, and I can now happily go for a 30-minute walk without getting tired. I’m also getting better at jumping and springing after toys.

I'm happy to report that I'm 100% potty-trained! As for my kennel, I've made huge strides and am much more confident spending time there. I used to whine when my humans left the room but I’ve mostly stopped that; if all my needs (food, potty, socializing) are met, I settle in quickly. I'm now used to spending up to three hours in my kennel with no one home, and longer if I'm in the same room as someone during a work-from-home situation. I'm learning some basic commands like "sit," "down," and "off." I'm a really smart boy with a "slow-fuse" smartness – give me time to explore and process, and I learn fast, especially since I'm motivated by two of my favorite things: treats and lots of love from my humans.

I love playing by myself with all kinds of toys, especially squeaking toys, ones I can shake, tear, and gnawing bones. My quirk is that I have to take every single toy out of the basket when I play! When I'm in the yard, sometimes I really lose the thread and start wriggling on my back, grunting and hooting with abandon. I’ve made some excursions into the community and I am so much more confident and adaptable that I was a couple months ago. Given a little time to take in my surroundings, I greet new people and dogs with ease.

My foster home is pretty fun! I live with two other dogs: a five-year-old female Cattle dog and a grumpy thirteen-year-old male Chihuahua. My play style with the cattle dog has mellowed – we still wrestle and play chase, but it’s less full-on now. Best of all, I am improving in my respect for the Chihuahua, and I can now play and explore the yard independently without being a pest.

I had the chance to stay with a temporary foster for a time and the report was that I was great with the kids (elementary aged). I would approach them for attention, and I was fine with them approaching me. I even got used to the kids getting really excited about me and would get excited when they’d run up to love on me! The only thing to note is that I can be a little jumpy when kids run, but I even learned to rein that in during my stay. I also haven't met a piece of food I didn't want, so I will go for snacks right out of a child's hand! I would do best in a home where my family can teach me "leave it" to help me with my impulse control around kid-height food.

My foster family previously thought a cat-free home would be best for me because of my interest in backyard critters. However, during a recent, supervised introduction to a cat, I was calm and disinterested. While I've only had this single interaction, this suggests that an experienced adopter with a cat-savvy feline and a commitment to slow introductions might be able to integrate me into their home.

In my dreams I land in a home with a calm and confident family who loves me and gives me plenty of cuddles. I’d love to live somewhere with a big, fenced-in yard, like a homestead or a farm, where I could run around, dig, and chase squirrels to my heart’s content. I'd be a great farm dog, helping to watch over the chickens and goats. But if that's not possible, I'd be just as happy with daily walks and a family that will let me sit on their feet while I stare up at them with my dreamy eyes until they scratch my ears and neck. My perfect day would be spending all 24 hours right next to my humans. Could this be you?
