I'm ready for my new family!

Benny

I'm Available

Hi, I’m Benny! I’m a 33-pound island rescue with a goofy personality, an independent streak, and a whole lot of love to give. My journey hasn’t always been easy, but I haven’t let that stop me from enjoying life! These days, I’m feeling fantastic, and my silly personality is really starting to shine.

One of my favorite things to do is lounge. In fact, I’m pretty sure I could win the award for “Most Likely to Curl Up on the Couch.” I’m an expert napper and am perfectly happy to snooze on my own while my people are away. I do have a crate, and I actually like it – as my very own private nap sanctuary – but I prefer the door to stay open. I’m a guy who appreciates having choices! When I’m in the mood for some extra affection, though, I’ll happily join you in bed for a cozy snuggle.

I’m also a pretty good adventurer. I’m an excellent leash walker and enjoy getting out to explore. Because my vision is limited, I can occasionally be surprised by something on a walk and react to it, so I do best with a person who can confidently guide me and help me navigate those unexpected moments.

You see, I’m partially blind because of untreated glaucoma in my past. The good news is that I’ve successfully completed my heartworm treatment and am officially heartworm free!!! ❤️ I also take daily eye medication for life to keep my eye pressure comfortable and stable. I’m a total champ about my eye drops and take my medicine like the perfect boy I am.

My limited vision doesn’t stop me from having fun! I’ve learned to navigate my surroundings really well, especially in the backyard. Every now and then I might bump into you, a piece of furniture, or even the glass sliding door if I’m particularly excited about getting outside. But once I’m out in the yard, I’m surprisingly good at finding my way around – and apparently, I can dodge trees like a pro when I’m playing!

I’m also learning that having dog friends can be pretty great. I currently coexist wonderfully with my foster dog siblings, and now that I’m feeling healthy and pain-free, I’ve shown that I can be friendly with other dogs. Because I don’t see well, I need slow introductions in a wide-open space. Being approached too quickly or feeling cornered can be scary when you can’t see everything coming, so giving me time and room to get comfortable is important.

When it comes to kids, I’d do best with older children who understand that I don’t see well and can respect my space. I’ve done great with my foster family’s nieces and nephew, who are all over age nine.

My foster family says I’m a pretty special guy. I’ve overcome a lot, but I’m not looking for anyone to feel sorry for me. I’m looking for someone who will see the goofy, resilient, loving dog underneath it all. I need a patient family who understands my vision disability, respects my boundaries, and will celebrate all the things I can do.

If you’re looking for a wonderfully unique companion who loves couch time, enjoys a good adventure, and will appreciate every bit of love you give him, I might just be your guy. I’m Benny, and I’m ready to find the forever family who will help me keep enjoying this pretty amazing life! ❤️
