I'm ready for my new family!

Morticia

I'm Available

Hello, I’m Morticia. I’m a very sweet little lady with a face that seems to melt hearts wherever I go. I recently made the big trip from Texas with my littermates, and while the world still feels pretty big sometimes, I’m getting braver every single day.

I’ll admit that I can be a little cautious when I first meet new people or experience new things. I like to take a moment to make sure everything is safe before I jump in. But once I get comfortable, my gentle, loving personality starts to shine. Every day I grow a little more confident, a little more independent, and a little more curious about the world around me. My foster family says I’ve come a long way, and I’m pretty proud of that!

I’ve also been working hard on all my puppy skills, and I’m doing amazing. I’m rock-solid with potty training – no accidents here! I can hold it all night and even while my foster human is at work. I’m also doing great with kennel training. I sleep peacefully in my kennel at night and while my foster human is away, especially if I’ve had plenty of exercise, enrichment, and quality time beforehand.

Speaking of sleep, I happen to be an excellent sleeper. Give me a fun day full of adventures, playtime, and learning, and I’ll happily snooze for nine-plus hours at night. I’m even considerate enough to let you sleep in. You’re welcome!

I already know "sit" like a pro, am pretty good at "down" and "place", and have been practicing "come."  I love going for walks and am good on the leash. Sometimes there are just so many interesting things happening in the neighborhood that I get a little distracted. Can you blame me? There are smells to investigate, leaves to inspect, and squirrels to monitor. Luckily, I’m very food motivated, which means I’m eager to learn and pretty easy to teach. A few tasty treats and I’m ready to focus on the task at hand.

I would describe myself as dog-selective, so I need slow, thoughtful introductions to other dogs. Because I can be a little unsure of myself, I also need my humans to help me navigate interactions and respect my personal space. Sometimes I’m not quite sure how to tell another dog when I need a break, so it’s important that my human stays involved, monitors our interactions, and provides clear structure to help everyone feel comfortable.

I currently live with two adult dogs, but I mainly interact with the 3-year-old male. The other female is injured and on play restrictions, so we don’t interact much. The boy and I have developed our own unique friendship and play style! Sometimes we chase each other around the yard, and other times we’re perfectly content doing our own thing. We get along well most of the time, but if I start feeling insecure or unsure about my space, I may try to take control of the situation in ways that aren’t appropriate. For that reason, supervision and guidance around other dogs are essential to help keep interactions safe and positive.

One thing I’m especially proud of is how well I can entertain myself. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve become much more independent and can happily spend time chewing on toys, sniffing around the yard, or enjoying one of my newest hobbies: wildlife observation. I take my job very seriously. Birds, squirrels, rabbits – you name it, I’m keeping track of it.

I’ve had mixed experiences around kids. Sometimes I’m sweet with them, but other times, my insecurities can get the better of me. I have a tendency to resource guard human affection, which means I can feel uneasy when another person or animal tries to get close while I’m enjoying attention from my favorite human. If I feel like someone is invading my space or threatening that special connection, I may react by redirecting toward them. Because of this, it’s important for my humans to understand my insecurities and help me navigate these situations safely. I’ve also met a couple of cats and was very interested in making friends, but they weren’t quite as enthusiastic about me and quickly ran away! With proper introductions and time to get to know one another, I think I could do well with feline friends.

When it comes to finding my perfect home, I think I’d do best with kids who are at least 10 years old. With older kids, attentive adult supervision, and confident humans who can provide the guidance and structure I need, I believe it could be a good fit. My tendency to guard human affection means I need a family who understands that I sometimes struggle with insecurity and can help me work through those feelings. As for other animals, I could be perfectly happy as your one-and-only pup, but I may also enjoy having another dog in the family if we have the right chemistry. Either way, my humans will need to supervise our interactions and provide clear, consistent guidance so my insecurities don’t lead to conflict. Most of all, I’m looking for a family committed to helping me build confidence, learn new things, and thrive with a healthy balance of structure, exercise, enrichment, and love. With the right support, I’ll have the best chance to become the happy, confident companion I’m meant to be!

And while I enjoy adventures and exploring the world, I definitely have a soft side. Once I’ve burned off my puppy energy, there’s nothing I love more than curling up next to my favorite humans for a cozy cuddle session. In fact, snuggling is probably my second-favorite activity – right behind snacks.

If you’re looking for a sweet, gentle girl who may start out a little shy but will blossom into a loyal, affectionate companion with a little patience and love, I just might be your perfect match. I’m ready to find my forever family and show them just how special I can be. 🐾💗
