Hi there! I’m Ivy – a playful, affectionate, petite, Pitbull puppy with a big heart and even bigger ears (I’m still learning how to work them!). I’ve got a lean, athletic build that matches my energy, and sometimes one ear pops straight up like I’m tuning into a secret signal. My foster parents say it makes me extra adorable. My expressive eyes are full of emotion and absolutely melt when I look at my favorite humans.
I’m a happy, goofy girl who believes mornings should start with kisses. If given the chance, I’ll jump into bed and enthusiastically wake you up with licks to your face and toes – it’s my way of saying, “Good morning! I love you!”
My story began on Thanksgiving when I was found wandering downtown St. Paul in the freezing cold. Thanks to a kind stranger, I made it safely to animal control. After a couple of weeks, my foster parents welcomed me into their home, and now I’m learning what it means to be warm, secure, and truly loved. I’m thriving and soaking up every bit of attention.
I’m doing great with training! I know how to “sit”, I’m learning other basic commands, I’m working on “place” and taking treats gently (it’s tough when food is so exciting!). I’m very treat motivated, which makes me a fun and eager student. I’m kennel trained, sleep quietly through the night, and do great in my kennel during car rides. I arrived partially potty trained and now have it mastered!
My favorite things include wrestling and playing with my foster dog siblings, fetch, tug-of-war, chewing on durable bones or frozen Kongs, and (very importantly) cuddling. I adjusted quickly to living with three calm resident dogs – two seniors and another young pup. I’m respectful of my elders, and won over the fussy one (a major achievement!), and love playing, napping, and exploring with them.
When I get excited – especially during greetings or when special treats appear – I can be a little mouthy and jumpy, but I’m learning to stay calm with positive reinforcement and consistency. I recently met a teenage human and was overjoyed! I came on a bit strong at first, but after settling down, we quickly became best friends and even took a nap together.
My kryptonite? Food of any kind and human affection! If you have either, I will adore you forever! Because I’m athletic and love being close to my people (especially when yummy smells are coming from another room), tall baby gates are helpful. I’m also a power chewer, so durable toys like Kong Extremes, Benebones, and sturdy squeaky toys are perfect for me.
My dream day includes running around the yard with another dog or playing fetch with a human, going for a nice walk or run, cuddling with my humans and dog siblings, and relaxing with a frozen Kong in my kennel – with delicious meals and treats in between, of course.
I’d thrive in a home with patient, active parents who enjoy training, exercise, and mental stimulation. I’d love a dog sibling to be besties with, but I could also shine as an only dog with plenty of attention. I’d make a great running partner, and based on my current energy level, I’d do best with adults or older, dog-savvy kids or teens.
If you’re looking for a sweet, friendly, affectionate companion – a companion who will greet you with a wagging tail and unconditional love – I just might be your girl!
