Q: How do you volunteer your time specifically with Save-a-Bull?
I’m the rescue’s Post Adoption Coordinator so the main thing I do is follow up with our adopters after they bring their new family member home to make sure it’s a smooth transition for all 2 and 4 leggers. I answer questions and help troubleshoot any issues they might be experiencing.
I also help out by filling out thank you postcards to our donors and dog sponsors as well as odds and ends tasks like transporting and handling dogs. Oh, and I still try and temp foster every once in awhile when I need a puppy fix!
Q: How long have you been with Save-a-Bull?
I started fostering in 2012 after volunteering for some of the bigger, all-breed rescue’s around town. I really liked that Save-a-Bull was a smaller organization that offered tons of support to it’s volunteers, had a strong sense of community, and was committed to local dogs.
Q: How did you learn about Save-a-Bull and what made you decide to volunteer?
Facebook! I was following a local shelter that at the time had a breed restriction on Pit Bulls and wouldn’t adopt them out the public which resulted in countless healthy, adoptable dogs being put down. This was really my first experience with breed discrimination and I was outraged. I decided that I could either sit there and be upset or I could try and do something to help save more dogs. I chose the latter.
Q: What’s the most rewarding experience you’ve had as a volunteer so far?
Hmmmm, I’d have to say that seeing the puppies I fostered happy and healthy in their forever home years later is the most rewarding thing I’ve experienced. I dog sat my first foster 3+ years after she had been adopted and it was really cool to see her as a confident adult and a loved family member.
Q: Do you have any dogs of your own?
Yep, Lucy is my 10 year old imposter Pittie. We think she’s a Bulldog and Beagle mix. She prefers to be the only dog which is why I haven’t become a dog hoarder by now. Just Kidding…. Sort of.
Q: What do you do for work? For fun?
I work in real estate. For fun, I like to travel, cook, read, do yoga, and, of course, hang out with my dog!
